With the sun in the sky, the temperatures climbing, and the t-shirts finding their way out the bottom of the drawer, it looks like summer is finally here! The weather this week has been absolutely beautiful, unfortunately just in time for the week long, jam-packed revision session before end of year exams next week (aarrgghh!!).
I’ve always found the revision weeks at uni just a little bit odd: I just don’t know how to do it! Do I go home? Do I stay in Liverpool? Do I use the library? Do I work from my room? There are so many options and choosing one is just impossible!
For the first time since starting at vet school, I actually came home to the North East for this revision week. I’ve always decided against revising at home on the basis that I’d be more easily distracted; concentrating is much more difficult when there are cute cats running around and farms just 10 minutes up the road! Thankfully this year, it seems to have worked.
Although everybody revises differently and it is something which is very difficult to give advice on, I just wanted to share with you what’s been working for me this week:
1. Working Outside: the major perk of the sun shining brightly this week! I feel so much calmer and more focussed when I’m outside breathing in the fresh air.
2. Frequent kettle breaks: a 2-minute break to boil the kettle and make fruit tea every hour (ish) has been working out great when it comes to keeping my brain awake! Fruit tea is also some sort of magic wake-up and feel refreshed drink!
3. Wake up early: I am much much more awake early on a morning than I am in the evenings, so it makes sense to start my revision bright and early, the same as I would if I had 9-5 lectures.
4. Get plenty of sleep: it is a lot more difficult to get up and hit the books if you’re still tired on a morning!
5. Plenty of cat cuddles: I am very lucky to have an incredibly sociable cat who hasn’t left my side all week. Cat cuddles make everything better and are a little reminder of why I am doing this!
We’re nearly there at the end of the year now and can just about see the finishing line: keep up the hard work everybody!
